A treatment approved by veterinarians to enhance the overall wellbeing, mobility and performance of your animals
McTimoney is a whole body, holistic treatment. It uses high velocity, low amplitude thrusts to rebalance and realign your animals musculoskeletal system. It is gentle and therefore well accepted by animals. Soft tissue therapy is included to ensure your animal gets a gentle yet effective all round treatment.
Whilst Jodie specialises in equine and canine treatments, other animals are often treated with McTimoney with great results. Some typical reasons for treatment in all species are:
Jodie is a fully qualified, insured and registered McTimoney Veterinary Chiropractor. Also being highly qualified in soft tissue therapy, Jodie ensures every animal receives an all round full body treatment including myofacscial release and massage.
Jodie has a vast amount of experience with both horses and dogs having owned and worked with both for many years, along with many other types of animal.
Working closely with vets and other professionals in the area, Jodie ensures your animal receives the most tailored and appropriate treatment possible.
Jodie holds a Master of Science Degree (with Merit) in McTimoney Animal Manipulation. This is the only university validated course in Europe for Animal Chiropractic. Jodie also holds a Post Graduate Certificate (with Distinction) in Animal Soft Tissue Therapy, both qualifications being awarded by the McTimoney College of Chiropractic.
This level of certification ensures that owners can be confident that Jodie is very qualified and experienced to safely and effectively treat their animals.
Jodie is a member of the MAA (McTimoney Animal Association) as required of a qualified and insured McTimoney Practioner. Also a member of RAMP (Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practioners). This is a voluntary register for practioners who maintain gold standards within their feild. Only practioners who meet the following standards are accepted:
Approved Educational Qualifications
Proof of Insurance, both indemnity and public liability.
Undertaking continuing professional development - signed and audited.
Standards of Practice equivalent to practitioners in the human field.
McTimoney Animal Manipluation was pioneered by John McTimoney. He had trained under the founders of human chiropractic treatment after finding chiro to be hugely beneficial to himself after a serious accident. He then wished to develop a method of chiropractic that was gentle and effective on both humans and animals. The McTimoney College of Chriropractic was opened in 1972 and today runs the only MSc validated animal manipulation course in Europe.
A Whole Body Techinque
McTimoney treatment is a non invasive, holistic, whole body technique. It is remarkably gentle, using only the hands to deliver a series of expertly placed low amplitue, high velocity thrusts to rebalance and realign your animals musculoskeletal system. This encourages the bodies innate intellegence and therefore promotes self healing.
Working Closely with Your Vet
It is a legal requirement that all therapists must have permission from your vet to treat your animal. All treatments are regulated under the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966) and the Veterinary Exemptions Order (2015). Therefore anybody treating your animal without the consent of your vet is doing so illegally. This legislation is in place to protect your animal from unqualified therapists.
You will be asked to sign a form to verify that you have had permission from your vet for your animal to be treated, a simple phone call is usually all that is required for this. Most vets are aware of the benefits of McTimoney and that their consent will be required for treatment.

Horses

All treatments will vary, but most appointments will usually last around an hour for a horse and 45 minutes for a dog. Initial appointments will take longer due to the thorough case history required. The following indicates the process of appointments.
A thorough history of your animal will be taken. This will include questions about lifestyle, exercise regime, past and current issues, medications and any behavioural points of note. This is to ensure that your animal receives the most appropriate treatment. This information allows Jodie to understand how best to treat your animal and also raise awareness of any contra indications to treatment.
Jodie will analyse your animal's conformation by observation both at rest and in motion. You will be asked to both walk and trot your animal on a flat surface in order that Jodie can spot any potential areas of discomfort or asymmetry along with general movement patterns. This also serves to provide a benchmark moving forwards.
Treatment begins with palpation of muscles, joints and bones. Working across the animal from head to tail, Jodie will be looking for areas of tension, discomfort , asymmetry and/or misalignment. McTimoney Manipulation will be focused across the spinal column and pelvis. Whilst soft tissue work will be carried out where it is required.
Treatment encourages the bodies own innate intelligence and promotes self healing. This can continue for up to 72 hours post treatment. For this reason animals may be stiff or tired after treament, and they may be more thirsty due to toxins being flushed from the body. A plan will be put in place moving forwards in order to maximise the effects of treatment. This will involve your animal being rested for a day or two and then a gradual increase back to the usual workload/exercise regime over the following days.
Payment is by BACS to be made on or before the day of treatment please.
Please obtain permission from your vet well before the treatment date. Vets are busy people and this can take a little time. It is a legal requirement that treatment be approved by your vet and treatment cannot go ahead without this. In some situations Jodie will liase directly with your vet as required.
Please ensure your horse or dog is dry and relatively clean for treatment - however they do not need to be gleaming!
Treatment can be carried out inside or outside, but please ensure there is a safe and quiet space available. Ideally an area will be available for trot ups, please give some thought to this if necessary.
To maximise the effects of McTimoney, horses should not be exercised 2 hours before or 24 hours after treatment.
Some common contraidications are listed below. These mean treatmet cannot go ahead. Please take these into consideration;
Horses - £60
Dogs - £ 45
McTimoney can also be very beneficial to other animals, such as cats, alpacas, sheep and cattle. Please enquire for prices.
